Good governance

The duties and responsibilities of the trustees are governed by legislation and funds' rules. In performing their duties, the trustees always act with care and utmost faith towards the members' interests.

Trustees make sure the members' interests are protected and that the retirement funds operate efficiently. This is why the funds have trustees with extensive knowledge and experience. Half of the trustees are independent and have no relationship with Momentum.

Legal updates and risk informers

FundsAtWork keeps all of our clients up to date with legislative changes and requirements. Members, employers and financial advisers can find the latest information in our legal update and risk informer library.

Retirement and insurance legislation is reviewed and updated from time to time. Staying compliant with legislation is not a simple task, but our team of experts make sure that we are compliant so that we can protect the members' interests.

Other bodies:

South Africa has several institutions and bodies that exist to oversee all aspects of the employee benefits industry. Examples of these are:

  • The Financial Services Board (FSB) - a unique independent institution established to oversee the South African non-banking financial services industry in the public's interest
  • The Pension Funds Adjudicator - investigates and resolves disputes fairly, economically and promptly in respect of pension and provident funds.
