Safety Alert FAQ

Safety Alert is available to active Momentum car and home insurance policyholders plus one other nominated user of the policyholder’s choosing.

Should you want access to the Safety Alert feature for yourself and/or an additional user, you will be required to take out a Momentum car and home insurance policy.


  1. Download the Momentum App.
  2. Once the app is downloaded, create a profile using the Momentum App, which will allow you to login
    NB*to proceed with the activation of your Safety Alert feature on the Momentum App you will need to be an active Momentum car and home insurance policyholder.
  3. A pop-up notification will appear in the Momentum App to register for the Safety Alert feature.
  4. You will need to click on the pop-up notification, which will request their details to ensure we have the correct information captured for usage during an initiated button push for armed response.
  5. Once your details have been captured correctly, the Safety Alert feature will be activated on the Momentum App.
  6. You will have access to the Safety Alert button in the pre-login and post login environment.

  1. Log on to the Momentum mobile app
  2. Once you have logged in, via your password or biometrics, go to the menu (top left), click on “Settings” then “Safety Alert settings"
  3. Click on “Add or remove nominated user”
  4. Complete the form with the nominated user’s details
  5. Click “Submit”

  6. Your nominated user will receive an email with instructions on how to install the Momentum App and register their Safety Alert feature.

In instances where the Safety Alert feature is not available to you (and/or your nominated user) due to technical errors, an in-app notification on the Safety Alert feature will be displayed with the Control centre contact number for you to dial immediately upon selecting the number.

You (and/or your nominated user) need to ensure that phone/ dialling permission settings on the Momentum App have been activated for the feature to work.

The app requires that you have both your mobile data and location permission settings enabled when initiating Safety Alert.

Yes, the feature will be functional during load-shedding, however for you (and/or your nominated user) to access and initiate Safety Alert you need to ensure that your mobile device is charged.

In the instance where you (and/or your nominated user) has already initiated the Safety Alert and your phone battery is depleted, our Control center agents will still dispatch armed response to ensure that you are safe. This will also apply to instances where your (and/or your nominated user’s) call is dropped; your mobile device is damaged and/or stolen while waiting for armed response to arrive.

The Safety Alert feature is user-friendly; once you have registered and activated the feature; you (and/or your nominated user) are able to initiate a Safety Alert with a single touch of the button.

Yes, the feature allows for you (and/or your nominated user) to initiate the Safety Alert at any location if you think that your personal safety is at risk.

It is important that you ensure that your GPS location permissions are enabled for armed response to respond.

All personal data captured on the Momentum App for the Safety Alert feature is protected and will only be used to make contact with you when the Safety Alert is initiated.

The Momentum App is free to download from the Apple App store and Google Play Store. Safety Alert is available to all Momentum car and home insurance policyholders and one nominated user, at no extra cost.

Active Momentum car and home insurance policyholders who have downloaded and registered for the Safety Alert feature plus one nominated user who can be a family member, friend or even a neighbour.

The Momentum App follows all documented App store standards for publishing and would not expose you to any viruses.

A Safety Alert can be initiated anywhere in South Africa regardless of GPS accuracy settings however you must ensure that your location settings permissions are enabled for the Momentum App.

Interactive in-app messaging between clients and the Safety Alert feature is not available, but once you have initiated an alert, you will receive a phone call, live in-app updates and SMSes on the progress of dispatched armed response and estimated time of arrival.

Policyholders can nominate one additional user to enjoy the Safety Alert benefit, free of charge. The nominated user can be anyone from a family member, relative, a friend, your child (minors included), a parent etc.

The feature can also be used if the registered user is witness to an incident where the safety of others are at risk.

The Control centre agent will be in contact with you immediately after initiating Safety Alert.

In instances where the Safety Alert feature is not available to you due to technical errors, an in-app notification on the Safety Alert feature will be displayed with the Control centre contact number for you to dial immediately upon selecting the number.

You need to ensure that your phone/dialling permission settings on the Momentum App have been activated for the feature to work.

No, Safety Alert is only available to active Momentum car and home insurance policyholders, should you take out a Momentum car and home insurance policy, you will then be able to share this feature with a nominated user of your choosing.

No, this feature is free to active Momentum car and home insurance policyholders (and one nominated user) and is an added value feature to keep you safe on your journey to success.

The feature is free however you will be charged for data usage as per the rates prescribed by your service provider.

Your nominated user can be anyone from a family member, relative, a friend, your child (minors included), a parent etc. The policyholder can nominate a minor provided that they are the parent or legal guardian of the minor and agree to accept all the terms and conditions on the minor’s behalf.

Firstly, if the nominee has yet to activate the Safety Alert feature the policyholder will be notified by a “Status: Pending” displaying on the app. The policyholder can remove the nominee at any time by clicking on the “Remove Nominee” button on the app. Once the nominee is removed, the policyholder can nominate someone else.
