Momentum Unisa Household Financial Wellness Index

Momentum’s purpose is to enhance the financial wellness of individuals, families, communities and businesses.

In order to fully understand what financial wellness is and what it means to households across the nation, Momentum teamed up with the University of South Africa (Unisa) in 2012 to compile the annual Momentum Unisa Household Financial Wellness Index and the quarterly Momentum Unisa Wealth Index.

The indices represent the first independent, credible and comprehensive research of its kind in South Africa and the findings represent an invaluable and unprecedented benchmark. The Index is vigorously and extensively researched and every year gives us valuable insight into the state of the nation’s financial wellness.

Momentum’s definition of financial wellness is when a person or household can sustainably cover their planned and unforeseen expenses, now and into the future.

The Momentum Approach Open

Momentum believes that financial wellness is a key element of a successful life plan. It forms the cornerstone of a successful work, family and personal life.

Momentum, in partnership with financial advisers, aims to help South Africans adopt a more considered view of their financial planning. We believe that if an individual starting their financial journey gets the right advice from the start, they significantly improve their chance of setting a sound foundation for their future financial wellness.

We strongly advocate long term financial planning that will assist consumers to realise their dreams and goals while realising that the journey towards understanding financial wellness, on a consumer and individual client level, is ongoing and not something that will happen overnight. It's a journey that is constantly evolving, but we are in it together with UNISA, clients, financial advisers and South Africa's consumers.

To optimise your financial wellness, a financial adviser can support you on your financial wellness journey, thus matching your need to the appropriate solution. Appropriate advice will enable the right needs-based solutions including Risk, Health, Investments, Short Term Insurance, and Retirement Planning.
